In this presentation, the presenters will talk about their experiences teaching el pretérito and el imperfecto in Spanish and the passé composé and imparfait in French at the same times, giving students the ability to speak about past events all at once. Let's discuss it, and find ways to implement or change what we did.
In this session, I will present a summary of current research findings on instructed second language acquisition drawing mainly from Shawn Loewen’s book, Introduction to Instructed Second Language Acquisition, with an emphasis on instructional techniques and activities that research has shown to be beneficial for second language acquisition in adolescent and adult learners. Participants will have an opportunity to apply the information to create activities for their classes. Sample activities will be provided.
Presenters will share reading strategies and resources to support student acquisition and fluency. From novels to embedded readings, through current news and cultural connections, participants will learn to extend and enhance student reading for more engagement and deeper comprehension and retention of the target language.
